As we eagerly anticipate the (nicely rounded) 40th edition of the French Finance Association (AFFI) Conference in Lille (AFFI 2024) [the program is out !], it's the perfect time to dive into some history, akin to this “Brief History of Revue Finance” post…
…and to explore the research impact visualization for Revue Finance, the scientific journal of the French Finance Association.
Since 1980, Revue Finance has been a pivotal platform for financial research in France and beyond.
To visualize the impact of our journal, I (quickly) created a (simple) bibliometric network graph.
Utilizing Harzing’s Publish or Perish (PoP) software, I extracted the 21 most cited papers from the 20081-2023 period, selecting those marked with h-index indicators.
Subsequently, I identified the citing papers for each of these 21 seminal works, again focusing on those with h-index markers.
For the sake of clarity, I limited the display to the top 3 citing papers for each of the 21 selected articles.
The graph below2 (interactive version here) displays the 21 most cited papers published in Revue Finance (firebrick circles) and all the journals (and also research books) that published the top 3 citing papers for each of the 21 most cited papers (light orange circles).
In other words, each of the 21 most cited papers from Revue Finance is linked to its top 3 most citing papers3.
That “supernova” on the right (with more than 180 citations) is the paper by Hege et al. on venture capital performance, published in 2009.
The “gigantic sun” in the middle corresponds to a top 3 citing paper published in Business Ethics (with 665 citations).
Other “shiny suns” correspond to Management Science, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Comparative Economics, Family Business Review…
The citation network graphs vividly illustrate that our articles are not only extensively cited within our field but also by research in preeminent journals, whose papers are themselves highly cited.
This attests to the significant impact and strategic role our journal plays in shaping the contours of financial scholarship.
As we look forward to the insights and discussions that the 40th edition of the AFFI Conference will bring, let us also take a moment to appreciate the rich history and bright future of Revue Finance.
We invite you to explore the interactive graph, contribute your research, and engage with a community that’s dedicated to advancing the frontiers of financial knowledge.
The year 2008 marks the transition of the journal to full English publications, broadening our international reach and impact.
